INSTRUCTIONS FOR WRITING AND PUBLISHING ARTICLES

ABSTRACT (11pt Bold Italic)

This is an author guidelines and article template of JOCOS since the year 2020 publication. Article should be started with the Title of Article followed by Authors Name and Affiliation Address and abstract. This abstract section should be typed in Italic font and font size of 11 pt and a number of words of 150-200. Special for the abstract section, please use normal margin. The single spacing should be used between lines in this article. If the article is written in Indonesian, the abstract should be typed in Indonesian and English. Meanwhile, if the article is written in English, the abstract should be typed in English only. The abstract should be typed as concise as possible and should be composed of: problem statement, method, scientific finding results, and a short conclusion. The abstract should only be typed in one paragraph and one-column format.

1. Introduction

Journal of Coastal and Ocean Sciences (JOCOS) This is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes scientific articles from research results or literature reviews about the life of aquatic biota, and physical and chemical conditions in both brackish and marine waters. The articles can be; Research Report, Review, Case Report, Short Communication. The decision to accept articles in this journal is the right of the peer-reviewers and the Editorial Board.

2. Writing Title, Name & Address

The title of the article is written in English, and the author's name (without an academic degree), and the author's affiliation address is written centered on the first page below the article title. The distance between the lines between the title and the author's name is 2 spaces, while the distance between the author's affiliation address and the abstract title is 1 space.

The title of the article should briefly describe the content of the paper. The usual limit for titles is 10 to 12 words (excluding and, or, etc.). It should be short and informative. Common names for organisms should be used and abbreviations should be avoided. Use descriptive words that you will strongly associate with the content. The majority of readers will find your paper through an electronic database search. So the search engines lock on the words found in the title of the manuscript.

Keywords must be written below the abstract text, arranged in alphabetical order, and separated by a semicolon with a word count of 4-6 words. The corresponding author is marked with (*). At the bottom of the left column of the first page/abstract must be written the sign of the author in charge and the email address should also be written.

If there is more than one author, write the names of the authors separated by a comma (,). If the author's name consists of two words, the first word of the author (first name) should not be abbreviated. If the author's name consists of only one word, write the actual name in one word, however, in the online version, it will be written in two words containing the same name (repeated) for indexation purposes.

3. General Guidelines for Writing Scripts.

The manuscript is written in MS Word format according to the template of this article. Manuscripts can be submitted via:

  2. Online Submission System (https://jocos.ejournal.unri.ac.id) after registering as an Author and/or Reviewer in the “Register” section.

Manuscripts that are not in accordance with the writing instructions will be returned to the author first before continuing the review process.

Manuscript manuscripts must contain the following scientific article components: (a) Article Title, (b) Author Name, (c) Author Affiliation Address, (d) Abstract and Keywords, (e) Introduction, (f) Materials and Methods, (g) Results and Discussion, (h) Conclusion, and (i) Bibliography.

Writing subtitles in the body of the article (Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, and Conclusions) must be numbered in sequential Arabic numeral format starting from number one. Subtitles are written in bold with Title Case format and arranged left-aligned without underlines. The subtitles are written in bold with Sentence case format and arranged left aligned and using level two numbering format.

All manuscripts are written in English with a maximum number of 10 pages including figures and tables. Manuscripts must be written according to this article template in camera ready form. Written in A4 (210 x 297 mm) writing area and formatted with a left margin of 25 mm, a right margin of 20 mm, a bottom margin of 20 mm, and a top margin of 30 mm. Using Times New Roman with a font size of 11 pt (except the article title), one spaced, and in a two-column format (except the article title, author name, and abstract). The distance between the columns is as far as 10 mm. New paragraphs start 10 mm from the left border, while there are no spaces between paragraphs. All numbers are written with Arabic numerals, except at the beginning of sentences.

Tables and Figures are placed in the text group after the table or figure is referenced. Each image must be titled (Figure Caption) at the bottom of the image and be numbered in Arabic numerals followed by the image title. Each table must be titled (Table Caption) and numbered in Arabic numerals at the top of the table followed by the table title. Images must be clearly printed (font size, resolution, and line size). Figures and tables and diagrams, schematics should be placed in columns between groups of text or if they are too large placed in the center of the page. Tables may not contain vertical lines, while horizontal lines are allowed at the top and bottom of column headings and at the end of the table.

4. Special Instructions for Writing Manuscript Contents.

Article Title: Must be written briefly and clearly, and must indicate exactly the problem to be raised. The title does not allow for mixed interpretations. Written entirely in capital letters symmetrically. Article titles should not contain abbreviations that are not commonly used.

Abstract. The abstract should not be more than 1500 characters or 200-300 words. The abstract should explain briefly; the introduction, objectives, materials and methods, results, and the main conclusions of the study.

Introduction: Sequentially, the introduction must introduce the problem or topic of this research. Then describes the level of existing knowledge on the material under study (state of art) referring to the published literature related to this topic as the basis for the scientific novelty of the article, and research problems, objectives, or hypotheses.  

Research method: Contains the steps and stages taken in finding answers and achieving goals. This session should provide all the necessary information to enable the skilled researcher to replicate the research. The protocol used, equipment, and measurements should be described. Each plant, animal, and soil must be identified by its scientific name, applicable cultivar name, soil taxonomy, and special characteristics. The name of the chemical and device used must be stated, followed by the name of the manufacturer in parentheses (name, city, country).

Result and Discussion: The results sub-session contains scientific findings obtained from the results of this study. The reader should be directed to the tables and figures where the details are shown. The results obtained must be supported by valid data. The research results must be able to answer the research hypothesis. The discussion sub-session contains an analysis of the data obtained, comparisons with the results of previous studies and theoretical and logical reviews of why this is so.

Conclusion and Remarks: Conclusions describe the answers to hypotheses and/or research objectives or scientific findings obtained. If there are suggestions, they can be added at the end of the article.

Bibliography: Contains all references referred to in the text of the article. The bibliography must contain reference libraries originating from actual primary sources (scientific journals; minimum 80%) and reference books published in the last 10 (ten) years. Writing a bibliography using a reference management application program such as Mendeley, EndNote, Zotero, and so on, which is written into 1 writing column.
